Compare the Chevy Traverse to the Kia Telluride and Dodge Durango

Three-row SUVs might seem too large to handle, but you'd be surprised at how well some lineups can manage tight turns with graceful ease. However, that doesn't mean you can't expect what you know to be true - three-row SUVs offer cavernous cargo space and powerful engine options, allowing you to dominate the road easily. No other SUV achieves a seamless combination of these features quite like the new Chevy Traverse.

However, that doesn't mean the Traverse is without competition. Models like the Kia Telluride and Dodge Durango can offer a similar experience, making it difficult to choose the one you prefer for your family drive. Luckily, you don't need to spend hours researching to see which one best suits you. We've compared the Traverse to its Kia and Dodge rivals to showcase the best features and why we think the Chevy SUV is better suited for an all-around experience. Let us know if you have any questions.

Chevy Traverse vs. Kia Telluride

Big SUVs require big power, and the Chevy Traverse doesn't disappoint. Under the Traverse's hood, you'll find a 3.6-liter V6 that delivers 310 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque. Conversely, the Kia Telluride comes equipped with a 3.8-liter Lambda V6 that produces 291 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. If you're looking for a faster lineup with quicker acceleration, the Chevy Traverse is the way to go.

Inside, the Kia Telluride is certainly spacious, offering a passenger volume of 178.1 cubic feet throughout its three rows of seats. Folding those seats down increases your cargo space, allowing you to achieve up to 87 cargo feet of space for shopping trips and more. However, that doesn't quite match up to the Chevy Traverse. While the Traverse offers plenty of passenger space, it surpasses the cargo capacity offered by the Telluride easily. The Chevy SUV features 98.2 cubic feet of storage space, more than 12 cubic feet over its Kia rival.

Chevy Traverse vs. Dodge Durango

Safety is a priority no matter what vehicle you want to drive. Luckily, SUVs make it easy to keep your loved ones protected with numerous safety features and driver assistance options. The Traverse makes it easy to protect everyone, thanks to a standard lane-departure warning system that alerts you when you start to leave your lane. The Durango offers a similar feature, but you'll need to pay extra for it. The Traverse lineup also offers optional Surround Vision, which provides you with a 360-degree view of your vehicle as you try to navigate tight parking spots. You won't find a similar feature in the Dodge Durango lineup.

The Dodge Durango is known for its robust powertrain options, offering engine capability that extends far past that of many rivals. However, its standard powertrain isn't quite as good as the one offered by the Chevy Traverse. The Chevy SUV's standard 3.6-liter V6 produces 310 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque, outpacing the Durango's standard powertrain output of 293 horsepower and 260 pound-feet, respectively. You'll also find the Traverse as a more efficient option with or without all-wheel drive. The Chevy Traverse benefits from an EPA-estimated 18/27 mpg city/highway with FWD and 17/25 mpg with AWD. You'll need more frequent stops in the Durango to your closest gas pump, as it only gains 14/22 mpg city/highway with RWD or AWD equipped.
